If you are referring to an earlier thread about wearing a bright color tracksuit on the streets of London...

well, you will find no criticism from me, at least. Black. flight home. sounds comfy.

The most tacky thing I do is something I learned on this forum. I take my old underwear to Europe and throw them away after they have served their purpose. Kudos to whoever posted that helpful hint. I now have room for more souvenirs (usually wine) in the suitcase.

When I want something to go my way in a social situation, I put on my Southern accent. Even if the person I am convincing knows me really well, they buy it.

I live in Italy and even though it's considered a breakfast drink I still order latte macchiattos in the afternoon and sometimes after dinner! (Gasp!)

A week's worth of my underwear wouldn't fill the smallest zip-lock bag. Yet the idea of not carrying said zip-lock bag filled with dirty (however tiny) panties in my suitcase is very intriuging. i might try this one...

On really hot days, I'll wear shorts while sight-seeing. And on rainy days I'll wear my $20 blue and red polyester jacket from Sports Authority.

How cheap am I? I re-use dryer sheets.

I am a very picky eater but I am usually too embarrassed to leave a plate full of food I didn't like at a restaurant in Europe because the first time I did it, in Florence, the waiter actually took my plate and put it back in front of me when I tried to make it obvious I was finished. So I have been known to, very discretely, pick food up off of my plate, wrap it in my napkin, and put it in my purse to throw away later. As if it is not embarrassing enough to do it one time, I've actually done it two or three times. Tacky indeed! Last time was in Paris; we ordered a cheese platter full of cheeses we didn't like.

I adopt the "don't wash your hair" look when in Europe. Since it is usually hot when I go and my hair is long, I just slick it back into a bun at the nape of my neck. Saves a lot of time in the morning and hell, it was going to get all sweaty out in the heat anyway. But it must be said...I do shower twice as much as at home due to the heat. Once in the morning and then again in the evening.

As for my husband? His tackiest thing is he eats gelato for lunch most of the time.

Tracey--Don't let an obnoxious waiter intimidate you. You paid for the food, didn't you?

InSicily06--How gauche is it to order cappucinos in the afternoon and evening? Before my first trip to Italy, an American friend forbade me from ever doing this. But I'll be going again in one month and need to know just HOW terrible is it to do this??? (If I'm in luck, it is considered criminal, as I'm asthmatic and will need my inhaler after dairy products. No sense in hoping for soy milk in the Italian Alps, is there?! )

LOL Guy...your absolutely right. I guess I'm just one of those "people pleasers" who doesn't want to offend anyone. We were eating in a small trattoria and I believe the waiter was also one of the owners or a relative of one of the owners. It just seemed easier to lie and say the food was great, and throw it out later, than to try to explain that I'm very picky and didn't like the food and end up hurting their feelings. Silly, I know....

That should be "forbade me TO do this". And I call myself an English teacher!

Guy, go ahead and order the drink. They understand that people might want to drink what they want when they want. Maybe you may get a look of surprise if you are out of a larger town, but that's ok.

Tracy, your post made me laugh. I did the same thing with some red meat I didn't want to eat and when we left the agritourism place where we were eating a dog started following me, licking his chops!

tcreath:

I did the same type of thing in Barcelona. Nothing looked good at this little greasy spoon, so I ordered a hamburger sandwich. When it came, it smelled quite bad and tasted worse, so I cut it in two, wrapped half in a napkin and stuck it in my purse. I left the half with the bite in it on the plate so it looked as it I had eaten some of the sandwich.

Guy, I agree with SeaUrchin... Order it! Hey, I do and they haven't run me out of the country yet. Anyway, an Italian on another thread wrote that for Italians, rules are made to be broken. So now that you know the rule, I say break it! Enjoy your trip.

When they give me a glass of water with a slice of lemon in it, I add sugar and make lemonade.

My LW always has cappucino, even n the afternoon and after dinner.

We drink wine right out of the bottle when picknicking.

I haggle over the price of cheap souvenirs, even if I get only 1/2 E off the price.

I don't wear black, even in Paris.
