What did you miss ?

Was there something that you reeeally wanted to see on your last trip to Europe, that you did not get around to seeing?
Would you go back just to see it?
Why ?

Geez, this list would be so long!! Every time I'm there I always leave feeling like I missed something.

OK, I'll speak only of my last trip, which was Paris in January. I missed the catacombs because it was closed until May. I missed some sections of the Louvre because they were closed that day. I missed the Trianons of Versailles because we ran out of time, although I did see them from the outside. I missed going to the very top of the Eiffel Tower because that was closed. I'm sure there's a lot more, and yes, I would go back to Paris to see these things. But I would go back to Paris for any reason, because who wouldn't go back to Paris??

We left London early on the morning of the Lord Mayors annual installation (I am probably calling it the wrong thing) in which he rides through the city in an historic carriage pulled by horses, etc. I do wish I had planned that better.

Yes, exactly, do you suppose some of us just use this as an excuse to go back
I am making lists for our upcoming trip. I want to think of all the things I have not done/seen and some new things to add to the list.
The Fun of planning a trip- lists!

St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. Every time we passed by the line was so long that we didn't want to waste hours standing in it. However, we are hoping to go back this year and will definitely see it then....line or no line.

Having missed the Peggy Guggenheim museum every time we'd been to Venice, that was a main priority this summer when we rented an apartment for a full week, just a couple blocks from there. So how did we manage to while away the entire week and still never get there? Ah, Venice.

I've been to Paris twice already in the last six months and haven't been inside Notre Dame Cathedral! The last time I was there, actually inside, was more than 12 years ago. I need to do more than just pass it by on the streets. It's just too beautiful.

In Paris, we missed seeing the Musee d'Orsay and most of the Louvre because the week we were there the museum workers were on strike. The evening shift, though, was not on strike so we got into the Louvre late Wednesday evening and had Mona Lisa all to ourselves.

Hi Scarlett, yes there is the small city of Treviso I have never visited in spite of it being close to where I stay. Have driven by it (by car or train) untold times, but still need to check it out. Next time for sure!

We had planned to see the Capuchin catacombs below the church on Piazza Barberini in Rome but they were closed last May. We cut our trip to Amsterdam too short so we didn't bike ride and did not see many windmills or see cheese being made in Gouda. Next trip.

Almost every trip. Sometimes just a sight, sometimes cities, even entire areas we trimmed off of the list.

Mizen Head in Ireland, Obuda section of Budapest, Cluj. Can you believe we still haven't been inside the Tower of London?

The whorehouses in Pompeii were closed for renovations. I might return to Pompeii, but not specifically to see those. Gosh, the view of Mt. Vesuvius from Pompeii is so breathtaking!
