What clothes for England, Ireland and Scotland last 2 weeks of August?
We will be there 17 days spending almost 2 weeks in Scotland and Ireland and have been trying to plan to pack the best clothes for comfort. I know we need the rain jacket, walking shoes, and layering. The question is just how cold is it with the dampness. Will jeans be too heavy in August? Also, for London the weather looks like it hangs in the upper 60's low 70s, then spikes to the 80s, plus the heat in the tube! Do they wear bermuda length type shorts for women and men? For my husband, even if he does not need a jacket and tie for the theatre or restaurants, is it good to have one for layering in the evenings? (Also going to the Tattoo in Scotland which is at 9pm and could be cold and damp). Any insight will be appreciated, thanks.

I only wear shorts when I play golf and after umteen trips within Great Britain I have never seen them but rarely. However they don't take up much space so why not pack a pair?
In August it can be all options regarding weather. Cool, hot clear, rain and windy. Take your pick. Me, I take the same year round that I wear here in California.

It also depends where you are from. Are you from our currently hot east coast, or our currently 50's and raining Alaska?
I can remember wearing shorts in Cornwall on a bank holiday weekend, but a fleece later in Scotland on the same trip.
In September one year, too warm walking around Dublin but rainwear over fleece with a stocking cap at Slieve League.
So yes, prepare for everything.

hoping - you were lucky that you didn't need the fleece in cornwall. that said, it's pretty muggy at the moment, fleeces not required.
prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Thanks for the information. We were originally Northern US now in the south where it is mostly 95 these days. Looking forward to cooler climes. Trying to avoid taking alot of clothes but with the unpredictability of the weather it sounds like we need a little of everything (except snow boots).
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
