Some of our favorite souvenirs are things we do to our home in the European tradition...We've now got duvets on all of our beds, more flowers, and even a Euro-shower (Grohe, a la Germany)! Those are some of the things we think Europeans are best at, and now we've incorporated them into our home, along with the useful souvenirs we've brought home.

I've picked up many delightful, yet practical things from 15 years of travel: velvet bag in India, tailor made silk pants in Vietnam, perfume oils from Paris. One item that brings me delight is hanging on my front door. It's a ceramic tile I purchased from a lovely shop owner in Sienna. It's got a great design of a black dog and it says 'attenti di canne' (beware of dog). I smile & often chuckle when I see it upon coming home. The graphic of the dog is fabulous, reminds me of my dog. Yet my dog is mr. mellow; a rug w/feet.

I have a roman coin (fake), that I bought from a shepard in Espendos, Turkey. We sat together under an olive tree for about an hour, having a lanquid, non-linquistic conversation/negotiation. He started very high, I talked him down to a price that fit my vagabond budget. I used the old "all I've got is 100k lira" trick. He finally agreed to that price. At that point, I had to figure out a way to pull the wad of bills out of my pocket and peel off 100k. We spent another half hour staring across the lovely countryside. I finally gave up, dug into my pocket and pulled out my roll. He thought it was very funny, and I got my souvenir.
