Rosalie, just be cautious: we had two young men try to 'help' us use our ATM cards in Arles, France. Help even after we declined politely, since the instructions were easily available in English. It quickly became apparent they were trying to get our PIN number. We secured our card in my purse and moved on, completing our transaction elsewhere. No problems with the technology though.

We used our ATM in Europe... Britain, France, Italy - big cities, small towns in Tuscany - no problem!

I agree with the previous posts. Have a backup - even if it's your significant other's ATM card to a different account, and a VISA card or two. You can (as mentioned) get a PIN for your VISA too. I can have my VISA (same bank as account) set up to acess the bank accounts too.
Same rule applies as in the USA. Don't let people see your PIN. Between your card/bank # and the PIN, you can be cleaned out. Pick the ATM's attached to big bank buildings, or in reputable places like airports or big hotels. Watch carefully for transaction fees posted...

Again, thanks for all the additional advice.

I printed a list of ATM locations around the area we're staying in Paris. However, the list doesn't say if any of the ATM's are attached to banks.

We'll be staying on rue JacoHotel d'Angleterre) in the 6th district. Can anyone recommend an ATM that's closeby rue Jacob but in a safe location?

Rosalie: stop being so anal. There are ATMs all OVER Paris. Of COURSE they're attached to banks! If not, they're attached to Post Offices. Get a grip. Just walk out your hotel door and wherever you're going you'll find an ATM along the way. This is not something you need to print lists for or obsess over. Try to have fun on your vacation. You're already trying to ruin it.

Puhleez, you are such a twit. Did I say that I printed a list just for the sake of printing a list? I printed a list of the ATM's that are closest to my location. I specifically would like one attached to a bank-what, I need permission from the likes of you to ask before it's acceptable?

Get off. If you have no suggestion to offer why don't you just get off the board and find another diversion.

And you say that I'm ruining my trip already?

No, you are ruining my trip before it's even started.
