>>but I will try to start using the term, if it fits, to positive things as well!<<

Please don't . . .

(You are the only one who uses it and most folks hate it so give it a rest.)

Hey, nice of you to be positive, leslieq. For several years I have enjoyed commentary on Fodors, sometimes travel, sometimes forum conversations. I have benefited for sure from advice. In retirement years a block of time daily is spent on email, Facebook, Fodors. I'm not into texting nor other communication vehicles. I do take time for reading books (also a Fodors item) and newspapers and community activities and church.

Well I must confess Irish/Celtic music has long been a favorite. So our trip to Ireland ranks high among the many we've taken. Wish your pub was in Boston (We moved from Missouri to Watertown four years ago) Over the years enjoying folk/trad music with various festivals.

leslieq,

Have you spent any time in the Lounge? That might change your opinion.

Underhill, not even sure what the Lounge is! Maybe I should stay away and remain blissfully ignorant...no?

OK, Underhill...you win and I clicked over to the Lounge. Can only imagine what goes on there as the first post I opened was someone who has identical twin sisters. One had a facelift and the other won't speak to her or something. Hmmm....guess anything goes in that forum and probably does.

You would be wrong. It is one of the tamest off-topic areas that I have ever seen.

Those identical twin sisters were being discussed because of an unusual variant in their DNA. The Lounge explores many advanced scientific issues. Please keep your "what time is the 10 o'clock train?" discussions over here.

Thanks Adrienne. Someone has to defend the Lounge. Right now we're discussing the latest OECD study. Next will be Aristotle's contributions, if any. It's exhausting.

Fodor's closed off the Lounge I believe to new comers - why? Or is it open to all again?

It's closed to everyone who hadn't registered by April 2013. It was partitioned from the travel board. You can't even get there via hyperlink. Although I haven't tried to access the Lounge via google but I suspect the same applies.

That is has been closed speaks volume about the decorum in the dread Lounge - only go there if you have a very thick skin!

Bring back Budman - I'll have a Bud to that!

cold -- you made us laugh! You are right, people do need a space to ask about the 10 o' clock train.

"It's closed to everyone who hadn't registered by April 2013."

Do you know why??

Thanks, Leslie. It's great when someone takes the time to say something positive. Often you answer questions, add comments, and nothing. Not a word of thanks. So appreciate your post.

Kovsie - there are two theories:

1) to protect a cherished population of posters from external contamination, or
2) we were embarrassing ourselves, Fodors and Internet chat rooms everywhere.

I like to think it was #2. People will share a scary amount of personal information on a forum that is visible to anyone with an internet connection.

Originally the Lounge was created to avoid fights on the travel boards. Then when there were fights on the Lounge, they closed it to newcomers, so they could fight on the travel boards.
