Westminster Abbey Wednesday night

Hi, I read online that Wednesday night is a good time to visit Westminster Abbey as it's less crowded than usual. Their ticket site says it's open 4:30 to 7pm on selected Wednesdays; however I don't see any option to purchase evening tickets for any upcoming Wednesday. Is Westminster Abbey open late on Wednesdays in July, is that a good time to visit, and are those tickets only available on location? Thanks!

Welcome to Fodors. AFAIK Abbey Lates are rarely offered - like once a month. Most likely it won't be open on your travel dates. They would need to be booked ahead of time.

Thanks for the info. We have an elderly parent traveling with us who has difficulty standing for a long time, and I've been told that lines are long at Westminster even with pre-booked tickets. Is it better to buy early morning tickets or go later in the afternoon?

If you have pre-booked tickets the only real lines are at the entrance for security ( there can be quite long lines if you just walk up w/o tickets ). There often can be some standing and longish queues to get into individual chapels. If your relative can't stand for long periods there are seats in various areas where s/he can rest while the rest tour around. The Abbey also has loaner wheelchairs.

Right at opening would be best because there will be fewer people in the building. Crowds build up throughout the day and don't really tail off til near closing time.

Oh - meant to add. If you more just want to get inside the Abbey and don't necessarily want/need to tour throughout - you can attend Evensong and sit the whole time . . .
