Wenger or Mrren

Is there any transportation, hotel rates or any other advantage to stay at Wengen over Murren? The reason I ask is that some travel books recommend Wengen over Murren, and vice versa.

Thanks for any input on this matter.

It depends on what you like. Wengen has more stuff and more people, Muerren is smaller, quieter and in my opinion has cooler views.

Gilberto:
Re: Skiing possibilites, I definitely prefer Wengen over Muerren, because it includes the Grindelwald area whereas in Muerren you are limited to that only place, unless you want to switch over. However, I don't think the Muerren skipass gives you free access to the Wengen/Grindelwald one.

It depends on where you are planning to spend your time. See the picture at

http://www.lauterbrunnen-tourismus.ch/images/Region.jpg

The labels are hard to read but Wengen is about below letter "L" in Lauterbrunnen label and Murren is under letter N in Lauterbrun"N"en.

You are looking at different side of the valley. To go to one place to another you have to go down thru Lauterbrunnen. If you plan to spend most time in Jungfrau side Wengen is more convenient while if your mind is on the Schilthorn side, Murren is better.

I always stay in Grindelwald, partly because we now have our favorite spot, The Hotel Alpina with our "grandmother" like owner. But if I were to switch, I'd stay at Wengen rather than Murren. It just seems like more to do and easier access back and forth to other destinations. You can even go the other way from Wengen by lift to Grindelwald. We once stood in line nearly two hours to take the funicular up the hill from Lauterbrunnen towards Murren. Then there's still another connection, (or a very pleasant but long walk to Murren.)
Good afternoon, Gilberto
Along with Patrick have always stayed in Grindelwald, as felt it was a hub for
doing most things in the Berneroberland
however this is just personal opinion.
Between Murren and Wengen, personally
would favor Murren mainly because of the
view across to the Jungfrau, Monch and
Eiger. The view from the Schlithorn is
excellant on a clear day. My nephew
did stay at Murren about two years ago
at the Alpenblick and was very satisified with Murren, and he had
in a visit prior stayed at Wengen..
Richard of LaGrange Park,m Il..

I second Ursula, Wengen is better for skiing. As I remember you travel in summer.

I recommend to stay in Muerren. The village is more beautiful.

Ingo
