Weather in July

I was in Norway July 1997 and the weather was pleasantly warm and usually sunny. I did wear shorts a few times but it was rarely so warm that we would have been uncomfortable in pants. In addition, the locals kept saying that it was the nicest summer Norway had seen in many years, so I got the idea that it is not usually quite that warm. In the evening we always wanted at least long pants and a jacket, sometimes even a light sweater. I would compare the weather to early fall in a northern US city (like NY). Hope that helps. Do you really mean cruising, as in boating on the water? Checking my trusty New York Times World Weather Guide, I see the temperature in Oslo in July can vary from 91 to 39. (33 to 4 centigrade.) The average is around 70 (22 C) in the daytime. However, if you will indeed be boating, you can expect considerably cooler temperatures. Pack layers, including wool sweaters and something waterproof. I'd also pack nice t-tops to wear as underwear, which you can also wear alone if you get warm days. Pantyhose are good, too, as an extra layer under slacks and socks, or with a skirt for dinner on warm evenings. Personally, I'd skip shorts. They might be nice on some days, but they aren't as versatile as slacks. Have a great trip!

Hi,
I am norwegian, so I am a qualified expert on the norwegian weather.
You will need shorts and short sleeves, because it can get hot in July. You will also need pants, shirts, a warm sweater/jacket and rain clothes. If you have a combined rain/wind jacket that would be a good choise to bring. If you are going to the north of Norway or in the mountains, it can get cold (not freezing).
Kaja
