Weather in Greece in October?
I am planning a week honeymoon in the Greek Islands for the second week in October. What will the weather be like? All the sites I've seen just say "mild" or "pleasant" but nothing more.
Also, how many islands realistically can we see in one week? We get into Athens Tuesday morning and fly back out the following Sunday afternoon. I would like to see the sights of Athens and probably 2 (or 3 if possible) islands. Santorini and Crete are what we're thinking of now. We like romance, but also sights to see. Just beaches would bore us after a day. And we're not into the bar/club scene either, so don't want a party island.
Thanks for your help!

With such a short time frame, I don't see how you will have time for Crete. It is a very big island and it's quite a long way from Athens.
I would say that with that time frame, it would be best to choose one island if you want to spend a day or two sightseeing in Athens as well.
Tue: Fly into Athens, take aft/evening flight to Santorini
Wed, Thu: Santorini
Fri: Fly/ferry back to Athens
Sat: Sightseeing in Athens
Sun: Fly home
Where would you fit in a second island, let alone a big island like Crete? I think adding another island would be really pushing it, unless you just wanted a quick look-around for a photo stop.

Oops, I see you changed your arrival day to Monday.
I still don't think you have much time for 2 islands, but if you want to squeeze another one in, I still wouldn't choose Crete, because it's too big to see in 1-2 days.

Hi
Santorini will be cool in the second half of October. Definitely not swimming weather. The best part though is that crowds will have reduced. I would stick to one island. I think you are trying to do too much!

I've been to Greece (Athens and Crete) for a week in October but it was the last week.
My kids were happy to swim in the sea and unheated hotel pools but after one dip it was too cool for me!
Otherwise the weather was perfect. Sunny, dry and around 70F most days and it dropped a few degrees in the evenings.

We've been to various parts of Greece in October, usualy the first week but occasionally the second. The weather has mainly been good, sunny and around 22 to 26C in the day but cool enough to need a light jacket or jumper in the evenings. There is the chance of rain but we've never had more than half a day out of a week, often a thunderstorm that clears up after a few hours. I always go swimming but that depends on what you are used to. Hope you enjoy your trip.

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding.
To show actual weather for Santorini during the second week of October, I have set up a Trip Planner with averages and weather stats from 1996 to present: http://tinyurl.com/2blpzz
I agree that one island is enough for only a week in Greece. What's more, October is a perfect time for sightseeing in Athens.
