Weather in British Isles

We are going to be in England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland June 3-16. What kind of weather can I expect - high and low temperatures. What is the usual wearing attire? Is it likely to be rainy? Is there much difference in temps between the 4 areas?
Thanks for any help.

This is a toughie. It is so variable- expect temperatures between 65 and 80 degrees. It might be dry and it might be wet. It will be wetter on the west than the east. You can wear anything.

It really does vary, early June could be in the mid 20s but could also be as low as 11-14. We have just had a week of hot (24 degrees c) weather here but now it is cooler again. Sorry can't be more help! What I can say is that it will probably rain at some point!

There isn't much temperature variation between the 4 countries, Scotland is the coolest as it is the furthest North. Wales tends to be breezy and has more rain, but will be warmer. Am unsure about Ireland's weather. For more information, try http://www.meto.govt.uk/sec3/sec3.html or http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/

As for attire, it depends where you are going really, just walking around, sightseeing and shopping, just casual, in jeans is acceptable. Smart clothes for evenings out at restaurants is better.

Hope I have been some help!
Jon -

Cold and rainy. I was there that time last year. I wore my rain jacket every day except two days. Under that I had on a sweater and a turtleneck. I loved the area and the trip, but the weather was 50's and 60's and drizzly, if not outright raining.
Martha
Hi,
I was there in May last year and had wonderful sunny days most of the time, not much rain either, it was great. The evenings were pretty cold. I think in the uk basically anything could happen as far as the weather is concerned, so be prepared. I am leaving on Monday and have decided not to overload with warm clothes, if I really need more than the one lightweight jacket and sweater that I plan to pack, then I will buy, good excuse to bring more stuff home
Good luck and have a great trip.

I would endorse the need to be prepared for anything. It is cold grey and drizzly in London this am ..... but a week ago it was seriously hot and sunny with clear blue skies. There is no such thing as a dress code in UK, you can go virtually anywhere in virtually anything.

Hi ....

I would bring a fleece/jumper for those colder days/evenings. But also shorts etc. The problem with England is that the weather is so variable ... ie. this morning where I live was VERY hot ... but this afternoon it is raining.
Bring a fold up raincoat .. one that has it's own small bag ... don't think you will need anything heavy.
Mark
Hi!

You never can tell. I have been to England 5 times now, and have lucked out completely each time. I was just there (London/Oxford) in February - mid 50s and sunny the entire 5 days!

I was there in September - a little overcast, but decent.

I was there in August (96) and the entire month - it only rained a bit in Wales!!

The couple other times - June, & the fall - good weather then too!

I may just be really really lucky though.

The weather and music Gods always seem to smile on me when I travel! I have seen U2 in Berlin, and hope to see Van Morrison in Ireland next week! and since I'll be biking all next week, there, let's hope the weather is nice once again!!

one last note - I have heard that the sunniest months in Ireland are May and June. I'll let you know...

Jon,
Have been to Britain during simular time last year & the year before. There was a variation in temperature, but usually warm, but rain we could almost always count on. When we were there, though, rain did not cover the whole country at the same time. We stayed in London, & watched the weather the night before. When rained in London, we went to Wales for the day. If rain was north, we went south to Portsmouth. If rain south, we went north, even as far as Edinburgh. When in Scotland, even that time of year, it can get cool & a light jacket or sweatshirt would be welcomed. There were days when London had no rain & we just stayed there. Last year in London at that time, it was very warm. But as everybody else has already stated be prepared for a range of temperatures, more towards cool to warm, & rain.
