We need Rome/Capri Itinerary Help Please!!!
We will be traveling to Rome in May of 2002, over the Memorial Day weekend. Leave some day the week before, and return some day the week after. 4 nights in Rome, 3 nights in Capri. We're going to Capri basically to unwind. We realize there isn't alot to see there.

We are thinking of staying in Rome Wed., Thurs, Fri and Sat nights, and then traveling to Capri via train and Hyrdofoil on Sunday, returning to Rome on Wednesday to head home. (We checked and it is too expensive to fly out of Naples, unfortunately).

Is there anything funky with traveling on a Sunday to Capri? We chose that day because we heard that most of Rome shuts down. Does the train run normally as well as the hydrofoil? We don't want to be stuck.

Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

Hi Loren, can't help you with the hydrofoil part, but we just took the train back from Naples to Rome on a Sunday so I'd say that qualifies as running "normally."

It's probably a good choice to travel on Sunday because, while saying Rome "shuts down" on Sunday is a bit of an exaggeration, there are quite a few places that are closed.

Loren:
It is possible to take a day trip from Capri to Positano. There are hydrofoils that make the trip in a short time (maybe about 45 minutes). I don't remember exactly, but it wasn't too long. Both Amalfi and Positano are interesting town with shops, restaurants to explore.
