Is it true that the Waterloo station in London is closed for the next 7 months? Does anyone know what the story is here?

According to the Beeb, it's the Waterloo & City Line, a tube line, that's closed for upgrades. Not the train station.

The "Beeb"???? Is this like the dweeb? The BBC? Rush Limbaugh????

Pardon my ignorance, but which Tube line is the Waterloo & City line?

I'm looking at my Tube map (admittedly a bit old) and I don't see anything labeled as such.

My map indicates the Tube line running through Waterloo station as the Northern line. Has the name changed and is this the one you're talking about?

It's more of a train line so that the stockbrokers can get from Waterloo to The City without having to deal with the Great Unwashed

It's a line from Waterloo to Bank. No intermediate stations. Often called the Drain

Not shown on older tube maps because it wasn't technically part of the tube system. But it's at least a century old.

The Northern Line is unaffected by this, except that it'll be even fuller at rush hours. The Drain's irrelevant for most tourists: it's a key commuter line though.

It runs from Waterloo to Bank/Embankment which comprise the only stops and as you can see on the map it is closed from April-September 2006.

Whew, Robespierre, that is complicated, but after studying it for a half hour I think I have it figured out.

By the way, on a Christmas Day London Walk, we went by an older closed down station somewhere between the Strand and the river. The guide mentioned that it is used in hundreds of movies since it is no longer in use. Is that part of that line?

No. The Drain has never had any intermediate stations. And was never been part of the Tube system till a few years ago.

I imagine - but in tubology there's always a real expert around, so you might get a better answer - the walk included Aldwych, which has always been part of the Tube, and was in general use till 1994.

Aldwych was part of the Piccadilly Line, the Waterloo & City goes nowhere near it.
