water in Venice

The last time I was in Venice, there was water in St. Mark's. I would like to hear from anyone who has been there recently what they found. Also, did they use the Venice card and was it necessary.

If you take a couple of matchsticks you can row right around St Mark's Square on a Venice card.

I always drink the water from the floods at St. Marks-gives me vim and vigor.

Alta acqua (high water) in Venice most often occurs between November through February. A good website for info is http://www.veniceword.com/. If high water is occuring, they'll have something about it on the news section.
High water is a combination of high tides and winds, and the necessary combo is as cleo says usually in the late fall.
As for comments on the Venice card, do a search here for recent comments.
Feeling so far is that it's not worth it. Get a vaporetto pass separately, but the extra benefits (?) of the Venice card (free use of public toilets and entry to a limited number of museums) are not worth it for most people. Pay those as you go.
