Walking from Luxembourg Gardens to the River Seine

Walking from Luxembourg Gardens to the River Seine
Just wondering how many of you stayed in hotels around the Luxembourg Gardens area and were able to walk along the Seine at night? We're debating on staying near the Seine, but I'm noticing some nice hotels near the Luxembourg Gardens and St. Sulpice. Our last stay was on the right bank and we were a block away from the Seine and restaurants. Our budget per night is under $200 an evening and we are looking for a quaint, 3 star hotel. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Several years ago we stayed at the Hotel Michelet Odeon (100 euro for a double) which is a half block from Luxembourg Gardens. We are leaving in two weeks for another stay at the Odeon. It is a small 3 star hotel. We not only walked to the river, we also walked to the Eiffel Tower. This is a great area for walking.

We liked Hotel Delavigne very much. It's about a three-minute walk to the Luxembourg Gardens, but on a quiet street, and it's within your budget. We got the triple room, even though there were just two of us, and the extra space was worth it.

That all sounds lovely. When looking at the map, it seems further because of all the streets and we're traveling with another couple who haven't been to Paris, so we really are trying to choose a great location. My husband enjoyed walking along the Seine after dinner, so that's why I'm trying to find a perfect place to accomodate what each of us is looking for. Have any of you heard or stayed at the Hotel Henri Rive Gauche?

Most of the streets are quite narrow, except for the main boulevards. Also what constitutes a block in Paris is much much smaller than what we considered blocks in North America. on some blocks it maybe just one or two buildings.
Use Google Earth if you can, so you can get an idea of how the blocks works in Paris compared to your neighbourhoood blocks.
Also, use Pagesjaunes.fr for its interesting features. A little knowledge of French would help, of course but once you get the hang of it, it's easy.
For example, type in "Hotel Henri Rive Gauche" in the Qui? field and Paris in the Localite field, and hit the Recherchez button. You'll be given a listing. The first listing is the hotel you're enquirng about. Click on Photo, and a pop up will appear, showing you the facade of the hotel. On the right are a set of arrows. You are facing the hotel right now, but you can click on the opposite arrow to see what is across the street, or you can click on the side arrows to see what's next door, or you can click on the left or right arrow to see what the street looks like.
It's cool actually.

Hotel Henri Rive Gauche is FABULOUS--but also completely booked. If you still have no confirmed res, suggest you HURRY. If your budget is under $200 euros and you don't smoke, try the Muguet--they had a couple of rooms left yesterday

We stayed at the Grand Hotel des Balcons. Near the gardens and in a lovely area as well as moderately priced with a lovely buffet breakfast. Easy walk to the Seine....we did it a couple of times in order to take a boat on the Seine at night....magic!

The core of Paris (the first 7 arrondissements) is very walkable. To give you an idea of distances and time required, you could walk along the Seine from St Michel (border of 5th and 6th) to the Eiffel Tower (essentially the border between the 7th and 15th) in about 30-40 minutes. Likewise, you could walk from St Michel to the Grands Magasins (just a little north of the border between the 2nd and 9th) in 30 minutes. And you could walk from a cafe in St Germain to the heart of the Marais (near Metro St Paul) in about 30 minutes.

Very walkable, but when we were there 2 weeks ago, the last thing we wanted to after walking around all day was walk back from the river to the hotel at night. We stayed between the 6th and 15th in Montparnasse. We utilized the Metro a lot!!

Thanks everyone. We narrowed our hotel choices down and then used google earth to see how close it was to the Seine. We booked Hotel Henri Rive Gauche this past weekend, the reviews on trip advisor really helped as well. Thanks again!
