Volksmarches in Germany
If there are vistors planning on visiting Germany for a stay that may have a couple weekends, you may want to check out volksmarches if you are interested in walking (5-6 kilometer, 10-11 kilometer or 20 kilometer). Thest walks are usually through little villages and forests. You ma buy a start card for a very small fee and a little extra if you want the prize or "medallion". Most places have food, entertainment, etc. Here's a website with a pretty accurate list (at least for Germany). http://www.volksmarch.com/vm0605.html
As you get to the destination of the volksmarch, there should be IVV signs pointing in the direction of the start. You need to buy the tickets in advance. At the "Kontrol" point, you get your ticket stamped. At the end of the march, you can enjoy some food from the grill such as bratwurst & pommes, or get some home-cooked dishes inside. Many times there will be fest-type entertainment provided.
