OMG, other -- what tangled webs can be woven! I wonder if we will ever know the truth....

Thanks for passing on that article, and of course and again, best wishes for many more brightly colored wagons.

Ahmet & Eser

I was happy to check in here & see that you are safe in Chicago. It looks like Erdogan is using this opportunity (whether real or manufactured) for a major cleanup of all opposition. So your questions become even more pertinent. Best wishes.

I don't know how many judges there are overall in Turkey, but sacking 2,700 of them must make a considerable hole in the numbers of the judiciary.

Given the number of arrests it looks as if many of the cases of the detainees are going to be substantially delayed. [if they are ever reached at all].

I wouldn't be in any rush to go home, OC.

@ahmetcelebiler you are lie , none care about modern people like you having bow- tie. #Istanbul care about military attack .

I blocked him immediately.

It is sad that my first reaction on hearing of the coup was to assume that the President had engineered it.

As we used to say in business "never let a crisis go wasted".

My heart goes out to you, Ahmet, and your wife and family and am glad to hear that you are safely ensconced in Chicago. My heart, too, to Turkey, and for the upheavals that the country continue to go through. You have many serious conflicts that you are facing right now and I wish you strength and courage for getting through it.

Thank you, too, for keeping us up to date and involved in your ongoing thoughts regarding the country.

Suddenly FAA lifted the ban and we ere told that turkish Airlines will start flying tomorrow evening, when we visited their Chicago office.

Otherwise, we were at a loss on the basis of lots of conflicting rumours.

So we fly to Istanbul Wednesday, come what way;

To avoid Taksim Square

and all malls

and all restaurants where Islamists may suddenly appear in the street to confront one,

to visit Metro only for heavy house shopping,

taxis and ferry boats for traveling.

Will probably sell car also, although it is useful to take us to Nicaea.

Best of luck, OC. Will be very interested to hear your reports from Istanbul as I still expect to be there for two nights in September.

Safe travels & keep you head down when you get home. It is increasingly looking like it is not a good time to be a secularist in your homeland.

Thanks, OC. The other article I found about Paul Ryan was also worth a read.
