Visiting a castle from Vienna?
My friend wants to visit Germany to see some of the castles, but she doesn't know exactly where she wants to go.
We will also be visiting Vienna, and a trip to Germany may not be feasible this trip - does anyone know if any tour groups offer day tours from vienna to a german castle?
Anyone have any other advice on how I can accomplish this?

The site www.travelwriter.at/about/castles/in_austria/ loweraustria/index.shtml has a good annotated list of such castles. There is another at the site which boasts the web address http://www.tiscover.at/guide/5,en,SC...E/sights.html/. Each link gives you a picture of the castle.
There will certainly be day tours: she can just go and ask the Lower Austria Tourist Board office in Vienna to suggest some, or you could write to them now. Their address is Fischhof 3/3, A-1010 Wien, Telephone: +43 1 53610 6200, Fax: +43 1 53610 6060, Email: [email protected], Web site: http://www.tiscover.com/niederoesterreich then click on English
Please write if I can help further.

That long reply with no breaks in one line has messed up the format for this, so hope you can still read this. If not a castle, a nice alternative is going to the wonderful monastery at Melk. It has some gorgeous rooms and the famous library, a wonderful setting up on a hill, and you can get there easily by train, and possibly even return to Vienna part way by a boat on the Danube. Great full day trip, but easy.

Sorry for that. Please enter http://www.tiscover.at/, then Lower Austria, then castles. Or use Google for castles lower austria.
