Visited the shops in London!

After so many good tips on shops in London I just want to thank you all!

I am back from London (wonderful as ever) and decided to write some impressions I got while shopping there.

First of all; Harrods. I know that there are fans of it and that there are a lot of people who dislike it. But after I was there early in the morning and later when it was more crowded I have to say that it is a good place to get an impression on what is available, for example I like the Laura Mercier counter very much as I can not get this brand in germany.
Maybe it is crowded on some times of the day but the staff is friendly and helpful what is very important to me (my english isn`t so good and I sometimes have to use my hands to say what I want and especially than it is important to have a friendly sales person...)

I did my usual shopping at Harvey Nichols and found the beauty hall very good but a bit loud.

Selfridges has an even bigger beauty department but also an interesting mens clothing department(and many other interesting places so a new champagne bar).

When it comes to cashmere I liked NPeal very much, it has a cheaper line they call NPeal works with very colourful and also classic sweaters in high quality.

A friend of me is a big fan of Monsoon and so I visited for the first time-they have a very nice and affordable clothing collection based on the retro trend that is so fashionable at the moment.

From my point of view it makes sense to buy Burberry at the airport as it is cheaper there then on high street in Britain or here in germany.

I couldn`t make it to Murder One (bookshop) but was as usual delighted by Hatchards as they have a good selection of books for every taste.

Jo Malone is heaven for me and I can highly recommend their skin care range. It comes in small plastic containers suitable for travelling or in bigger ones for at home.

I always buy some sweets to take home and discovered cheese shortbread by walkers and the chocolate brownies and rustic cherry slices from pret a manger this time.

Believe it or not, I was not only shopping!

Oh yes, Walkers shortbreads and Joe Malone..
Thank you LOndonholly for a short but sweet report
Did you not go to Libertys? I try to buy a scarf there each time I visit, they make just pretty scarves.

Londonholly, I'm glad you had a good trip and can afford to shop at such wonderful stores.
Any suggestions for the middle class? No, not the aweful stores on Oxford street, but something nice without being very expensive designer like Burburry's?
Scarlett, I do love to get something from Liberty's too, but small.
The real splurges I allow myself are some of the different brands of expensive chocolates. Mmmm!

kodi, if I were able to do justice to the wonderful needlepoint kits that they sell in Liberty, I would get one of those every time we are there.
I love to get something in Penhaligons, one year the Yankee bought me a lovely small key chain in pink leather and some fragrance.
Not too expensive but you get to enjoy them for years..

Scarlett, I must admit I'm not familiar with Penhaligons, but it sounds like reason enough to return to London. I just looked up the locations and don't know how I missed them.
I bought some great body wash at LIberty's this year, but you are so right. It's a better idea to buy something that will be with us for a long time.
I did buy a teddy bear in a little shop on Regent Street and I love him. I named him Lancaster.

kodi, I like Jigsaw; nice clothes, not too expensive. Accessorize has some great bags and other accessories at low prices. Marks and Spencers, particularly the one at Marble Arch, can be good sometimes (especially their underwear; some of it designed by the former designer of La Perla).
LK Bennett for shoes.

Londonholly; glad you had a good time. I'm going next week. One shop I always go to in London is the Gap; we don't have this in Belgium, not in Holland either.

Another great cashmere shop is Brora; there's one on the King's Rd and one in Notting Hill.

Kodi, when I shop at HN I usually go for things I really like and do not get here, like the orange spice tea from their own brand(hmm...) or clothes I have to invest in (as I have not enough money to buy every trend I usually go for high quality when I decide to buy and then I hope that it will last forever) and you can get some very good brands as Max Mara there. But I am not able to really go on a shopping trip here. But I think to sit in the cafe there and people watch is affordable and interesting-you can see so many different people!
Very different from my small bavarian town or even Berlin!

As Tulips says; Jigsaw is a very good shop to go to (Bond Street, Whitleys shopping centre and between Harrods and Harvey Nichols at Knightsbridge for example) but this season they do not have colours I like, the quality is good and the prices are reasonable.

I also like Gap (they have closed in Berlin, now I have to buy my jeans in London as they are the only company who make affordable jeans with the right fit for me as far as I can say after I tried on hundrets of pairs) and I think Laura Ashley is worth a visit.
They have some very sweet home assecories.

Great for nice souveniers are the museum shops-go to an interesting exhibition and buy a note book-this will remind you on your trip every time you use it.

Tulips, I wish you a lot of fun- Selfridges have still sale items (cute ones) at the shoe and lingerie department, maybe in other departments to as has LK Bennet in Brook street and some other shops.
Pandaschu-thank you very much, I am planning to work in London for some years so I have to learn to speak english much better!

Sorry for this long post-would you believe me when I would say that shopping is something I like?

Tulip, thank you for the shopping tips.
Londonholly, I think your english is great! And thank you, too, for the shopping tips. I wanted to go to Whitleys Shopping centre on my last visit, but ran out of time. I know exactly what you mean about buying jeans. It's almost as bad as buying a bathing suit! I also have the best luck at the Gap, but I'm very fortunate to have the Gap at my local mall. Still, you ladies have me wishing for my next trip to London.
