On our last day in Italy on a 12 day trip, we will return to Rome from Florence and spend the night at the Hilton at the airport. Since we will probably arrive at the Hilton around noon, we are thinking about going to Ostia Antica for the afternoon. Is there an easy way to get from the Hilton to Ostia Antica and return?

Take a public bus from the airport to Porta s. Paolo, then catch the Ostia train.

So I'm not confusing you, taking a cab or renting a car is much easier than the bus/metro from the airport area.

It's only 4 miles. You could possibly even walk or canoe from the airport but I agree with above. Take a TAXI.
