Villages in the Var (Provence)
We are going to be in Provence the middle of October and will be driving through the Var and would like some recommendations for villages to see in the area. Has anyone stayed at La Bastadine in Cotignac? There is a nice website and is reasonably priced (less than $100 per night). Just wanted to see if anyone had any good restaurants to recommend, sights to see, etc. in this area.

We spent a day in Cotignac a few years ago. It was market day and we had lunch at one of the cafes. Cotignac has a much photographed fountaine. In Saint Tropez, at a waterfront restaurant, I tasted my first sea urchins (oursins) They should be in season. Some of the beautiful villages are: Ampus, Cotignac, Entrecateaux, Les Arcs-sur-Argens, Seillans, Tourtour, Trigance, and Villecroze.

we have stayed a couple of times in a house in collobrieres in var....this is a lovely small village...in october they have their chestnut festivals almost every sunday...chestnuts are the villages major product....people come from all over and it is a fantastic take...
at other times this is a lovely little village, quaint and quiet...lived in by locals and some ex-pats....great place for lunch on a day other than a festival day....sunday is the usual market day in the town square as well....two restaurants have balconies over the river where you can eat...there are maybe 5 or 6 decent restaurants in this small town..

Dear blh,
We have stayed in Cotignac the for the last two summers in a 350 year old two bedroom two bath house.
Cotignac is a delightful village with its Platan tree lined Cour Gambatta, 18 fountains, and many restaurants. It is perched on the side of a cliff with ruins which our iluminated at night.
We especially enjoyed the church bells chiming the on the hour each morning.
It is also a nice base for exporing the hill country off of the Cote d'Azur and the Cote d'Azur itself.
The price is within your price range.
If you are interested I could refer you to the owners.
Their website is http://provenceamour.com/
Have a wonderful stay in the south.
A bientot,
RJS

Thanks so much, rhkkmk and lacigale.
Collobrieres sounds lovely. I will find it on the map.
Cotignac will be a good stopping point for us, and we will look forward to seeing the fountains, etc. Did you have any special restaurants to recommend since you have spent some time there? I know we will enjoy our time there after these recommendations!
