Vigo & Bilbao Spain

While on a cruise this coming Sept/ Oct we will have 1 day stops in both Vigo & Bilbao Spain. We'd appreciate any suggestions or recommendations for those days.

Thank you

Louise

The Frank Gehry designed Guggenheim Museum is in Bilbao. If you aren't interested in what's inside, the outside is entertaining in it's own right. I'm thinking about a pass through Bilbao just to look at the building.

Vigo is a not much of a town. We suggested to a friend who went on a cruise that they go to Santiago de Compostela for they day and they enjoyed themselves. It is about 1 1/2 hours away.

If that is too much take the ferry to the Islas de Cies, quite beautiful.

If you don't go to Santiago de Compostela, my first choice, you could visit Baiona with it's beautiful waterfront setting. There is a replica of one of Columbus' ships , the Pinta I think, as that is where it arrived when returning from the New World.

I would say the only interesting thing about the Guggenheim in Bilbao is the is wonderful Richard Serra installation inside (and possibly wondering why Gehry's hokey flop of a tourist-trap building has garnered so many fans).

Persoanally, I would skip Bilbao and head straight to San Sebastian.

Docking in Vigo, I would go to Pontevedra.

I am not deterred. Being a huge fan of hokey flop buildings.

I thought the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao and the Museo Vasco in Bilbao well worth seeing. But it really depends on YOUR interests. Consider investing in a decent guidebook, or consulting one at your local library.
