Vienna Schoenbrunn Evening concert

My trusty Fodor's guide book mentions an outdoor evening concert on the grounds of Schoenbrunn Castle. I have searched some but can't seem to find any details or how to get tickets. Anybody out there familiar with this? Thanks.

The grounds are beautiful. I haven't been there for a concert. Sounds wonderful.

I went to a concert at the Orangerie back in 2001. The concert I attended was excellent, a mixture of Mozart & Strauss. I do remember that the seating was very close together and the room was very warm in June (i.e. no air conditioning).

Was in Vienna in 1996 visiting and the 100 years of music festival was in progress. The final week at Schonnbrunn the Varsofia (Warsaw) Philharmonic did a complete Beethoven symphony cycle along with the Violin and piano concertos. Ths seating was outside for this venue and the seats ran from $20 to $80.

Tried to buy some tix the day of the show but the ticket seller just laughed at me. It had been sold out months in advance. So the Mrs. and I toured the castle (patterned after Versailles) and watched the rehearsal. We were in no hurry so we hung around.

Outside the gated paid seating area were stalls selling winerschnitzel and beer. We sat at a table had a beer or two and a light dinner and enjoyed the view. The show started at 8 and we promptly noticed that everyone in the eating area grabbed their seats and moved them right up behind the paid seats. We hhe best of both worlds, paid zero for the seats, could get a beer when I wanted one, and listened to the beautiful music.

Came back the next night as pros and did it again. Ended up in the first row of unpaid seats this time. We also bought some family members tix to an opera shown in the outside opera theater, maybe the Orangerie.

It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Germany/Bavaria/Austria/Czech.
