Vienna locations

I will be travelling to Vienna next fall. What is the best location to stay for my first trip there?
Also can anyone suggest some budget priced hotels?
Thanks,
Mike

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at www.residenz.cc and I think it qualifies as a "budget" priced hotel (at least it's a good value in my book). And I thought the location was excellent (very near the Rathaus), though not as central as hotels near the Stephansplatz, of course.

Best wishes,

Rex

Pension Suzanne, about 230 meters from Opera House and tram line, cost about 100 euro. Has website

Hello; try the Fuerstenhof:
http://www.hotel-fuerstenhof.com/
or the Zur Agnes: http://members.nudsl.at/agnes/
Either one will provide you with a great experience for your first visit. While neither is right in the city center, they both have a great ambience and are budget priced. Don't let some of the snob posters here fool you into a place that is 100 Euro a night or more that offers you a suite with lounge and tell you certain areas are "crap", their advice is just that, "crap". After all, you are just sleeping at your room, not living there. Get a real experience, either of the two places I have told you about are really great and will leave you wonderful memories. How long are you staying in Vienna?

tomboy and rex;
Oops, I wasn't refering to your recommendations in my intial reply. I have heard nothing but good things about Pension Suzanne your place rex and I am sure they are great. My reference was to a certain "toffee nosed" snob who looks down his long nose at what are really great places.

Inside the Ring is best. My two recommendations are Hotelpension Arenberg, 4*, part of Best Western but with posh Vienna feel, inside the Ring; Hotel Drei Kronen, 3*, just outside Ring near University and excellent buffet breakfast.

I prefer staying in the pedestrian zone but I don't think you'll find budget there. Certainly, inside the ring.

mike;
A pleasure to help. Try my site:
http://alexstarke.tripod.com/ for some other recommendations. If you are staying 4-5 days you might be interested in an apartment, the one I list on my site we stayed at last Dec-Jan; great place and excellent rate. As a matter of fact, I am staying there again for 3 weeks this August-September If you need any more help you can e-mail me through the site.

I stayed at the Hotel Drei Kronen. It was recommended here and I liked it a lot. Right by Vienna's the big outdoor market, great for gettin up and gettin coffee and somethin to eat.
