Vienna - Riverboat Dock Location?

Does anyone know where the riverboats dock in Vienna? What is the proximity to "The Ring"? Is the distance walkable for an average walker?

Thanks everyone for more great information!

The Ringstrasse isn't really within easy walking distance of the boat docks, but right across the street is a u-bahn station that will take you where you want to go.

Thanks Underhill --- can I assume that the area around the boat docks doesn't offer much in the way of amenities? Can you tell me how long of a ride on the u-bahn this would be? Also, displaying my ignorance of Vienna, is the u-bahn a subway system?

We walked about a block to the Vienna metro from the boat docks and used it exclusively all over the city. The staff on the ship gave us a map and directions amd were encouraging everyone to use the metro; we were surprised that we were the only ones who went off by ourselves. It was very easy to use and signage was clear. We went into St. Stephen's and the historical center and also out to the the summer Schonbrunn Palace in about 20 minutes from the boat area.

SueQue,
Thanks for the tips - is there anything around the boat docks themselves?

The dock area is similar to a park. You walk through a neighborhood, safe enough, but not where I'd want to eat, etc. to get to the Metro- the signage is a "U" for underground I presume.

No, there's not much of interest around the dock.

The U-bahn is the Vienna subway system. You find it easily - just look for a large white " U" on a blue background sign.

The line U-1 is the line that stops very near to the Danube River docking area. The station name is Vorgartenstrasse.
It is about a 4 stop 5-7 minute ride to the city center ( St. Stephens Cathedral ) 1 more stop to the Opera and the Ringstrasse.

A one trip ticket is 1,50 euro. A better bargain is a one day card for 5 euro. This allows unlimited rides on all Vienna bus, streetcar and subway ( U-bahn ) lines.
You can buy the tickets from automatic machines at the entrance to the stations.Be certain to stamp the ticket in the blue box machine nearby to validate it.

Not much near the docking area - a restaurant- cafe can be found as you walk from the dock to the U-bahn.

If you walk across the bridge at the docks to Donau Insel ( Danube Island) you will find many cafes and bars on the far side ( perhaps 10m minute walk maximum) a fun place for the young of Vienna - many " older " folk also. Not really much happening until the evening- but some places are open all day and have a nice atmosphere.
