VIDEO CAMERA ,WHO SHOULD PAY/
HELLO EVERYONE, I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A DILEMMA. OUR BEST FRIENDS BORROWED OUR DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERA ON A WEEKEND IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. BIG MISTAKE OUR CAMERA WAS RETURNED DEAD. OUR FRIENDS HAVE SWORN THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAMERA THAT IT WORKED AND THEN IT STOPPED. WE BROUGHT OUR CAMERA TO GET FIXED WHICH COSTED US 600.00 CANADIAN. WE WERE TOLD CIRCUIT PROBLEMS. THIS CAMERA IS AN EPENSIVE VIDEO CAMERA AND WE ONLY HAD IT FOR OVER A YEAR. IN YOUR OPINION WHO SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR, SHOULD WE BE ASKING OUR FRIENDS TO PAY FULL OR PARTIAL OR SHOULD WE ABSORB THE COST FOR THE SAKE OF OUR FRIENDSHIP. I AM SORRY FOR ASKING THIS I KNOW IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TRAVEL PLANS BUT I COULD USE SOME GOOD ADVICE. THANKS

This is what homeowner's insurance is for. And there is nothing unethical about giving your friend's name to your insurance agent. If you don't want your agent to ask your friends if they have homeowner's insurance, then you should say that. <BR> <BR>

Huh? It's sure not something that MY homeowner's insurance would cover, nor would I expect it to. <BR> <BR>Borrowers with integrity would not think of returning something in other than the same condition it was in when they borrowed it - no exceptions, no excuses. Since your friends have already admitted that it broke while they were using it (whether they can identify some "event" that led to the problem or not) I feel it's their obligation to pay for the fix. If they claimed that it was working fine when they gave it back to you that'd be a bit dicier situation, but that's not the case. <BR> <BR>If they have trouble with that then I'd recommend you find some better friends.

Nancy, <BR>"Circuit problems" is a pretty nebulous diagnosis. Find out from the repair shop exactly what the failure mechanism was. If the circuit failed owing to a component failure, for example, then although it may seem coincidental, your friend probably didn't cause the failure. If, however, there were indications of mishandling (cracked circuit board, for example), then it might be reasonable to assume that your friend caused the problem. <BR>In the first case, your homeowner's insurance probably won't cover the failure, any more than they would if a radio stopped working. In the second case, your friend's insurance might cover the repair costs. Certainly a statement from the repair shop as to the cause of the damage would carry a lot of weight.

First of all, SHUT YA MOUTH!!! You come to my court, you leave your caps at home - YA HEAR??? Now, listen to me, Miz Nancy, you expect me to believe that these people are your BEST FRIENDS??? What kind of a best friend just hands back a camera and says "Hey, it stopped working..now it's your problem," unless they really didn't break the camera..Huh? HUH?? BA-LO-NEY!!! And how do I know the camera was working when you gave it to them..Huh? HUH? There's somethin' fishy about this story, Miz Nancy, but I don't wanna waste my time with it. Go to these best friends of yours and ask them for 300 dollahs, and if they say no....GROW UP!! Now get OUTTA here!
