Yay! Thank you for more on Puglia. I was waffling on a trip to Polignano a Mare. No more! We will make it a point to go! Great reporting.

As an FYI the website for the gelato place in Polignano a Mare has a lovely map!

Sassafrass

If I had to do this trip I'd take the bus from Naples airport to the railway station and catch the train to Taranto and hire a car there. Basically because the train is pretty spectacular, not only do you do half the route around Vesuvius but you also catch a trip up into the mountains with some fine views.

Another option is to fly into Brindisi or Bari.

Yestravel thanks for your additional advice and moral support. I was just reading an old post of mine about a northern Italy trip and it seems that our paths have crossed before in '09! Did you not love Mantova and the Palazzo Arrivebene!

Now I know I'm on the right path following your travel suggestions and TR for Puglia!

Grazie Mille!

@tish-yes, loved Mantova and Palazzo Arrivebene was fabulous. I think you will find Puglia very different from the North, people, landscape, food, but all great.
