There are lots of other interesting articles too, and a reason why Italy is not the Utopia that some tourists think it is I am sad to say. Having family members by marriage who are residents of Rome I was not surprised by the article regarding how worried and/or scared a lot of Romans are feeling at this time.

Anyway, as usual Walter, thank you for the most wonderful and informative website. I would love to see the satellite images also Bailey!

Very interesting, maybe 5-10 yrs from now there will be a new tourist site ,, the excuavated ruins!

How very interesting! Thank you for sharing. I too would love to see those sat images. I am also curious as to why the town is only under 3 feet of earth. It would seem that after 1500+ years the town would be buried under more earth than that.

Here's something - maybe? Go to Google Earth & search Altino. It's NE of Venice. Zoom in to about 1600 ft. Look at the marker for Altino & just to it's left. What can you see?

I just Googled Altino....and it is amazing to see the outline of the Ampitheater!!

Exactly. And if you poke around you can make out roads & streets nearby.
