venicecard or not?

am new to the forum. I am going on a cruise in August. We will be in Venice for 24 hours. Is it worth it to get the Venice Card? I haven't read much about it. I think there is an orange card that does public transportation and allows into museums and bathrooms. And there is a blue card that just is for public transportation. Help!

And can I get it when I get there or should I try to get it before we leave? Thanks in advance?

For so short a visit, you may not need any card at all. I've been to Venice 8 times and have only purchased a simple 72-hour vaporetto pass once. It depends on if you will visit the sights included in the card--not all popular sights are.

You can buy passes that cover just transportation (vaporetto boats). It really depends on how many times you plan to ride. I think one ride on the Grand Canal is now 6 euros. A 24-hour pass is 15 euros. On your third ride, you're saving money.

I don't think there ae that many public restrooms in Venice to make that aspect of the pass valuable to me. I just make sure to use the facilities of restaurants and museums I visit. the one public restroom I can recall always seemed to have tremendous lines.

Here's a link to the museums covered:

Again, it depend on how many museums you can see in your 24 hours.

I truly don't think your need the card. The vaporetto pass, however is an excellent deal.

Get a good map of Venice. It is a very small place, and it is astonishing how short the distances are from one end to another. On the other hand, it's really easy to get lost -- but isn't that half the fun?
