Venice walking tour

Planning to be in Venice for five nights in late September - it's been about 20 years since we were last there. Most of what I recall from our first stay was seeing the main sights, getting lost, looking for restaurants, getting lost, and getting lost. (Getting lost is not always a bad thing, of course). We really did have a wonderful time - we were "gifted" an apartment near the Rialto Bridge by an extended family member's relative, and it was a great experience.

This time around we will be staying in another apartment not far from where we stayed last time - and I'm thinking it might be a good idea to find a knowledgeable walking tour guide to give us an overview of the city before we head out to explore on our own. We'd probably want to do a half-day walking tour the day after we arrive. I've arranged "Greeter" tours in other cities, but it appears Venice doesn't participate in that program.

We don't want to be a part of a huge entourage, looking at the backs of other people's heads while trying to keep the guide's unfurled umbrella in view - but also don't think we necessarily need a private guide. Does anyone have a walking tour to recommend? Or to warn against?

Thanks!

We used Chiara Peluso in 2022 for a private walk and really enjoyed it. She will tailor it according to what you want to see. In my case, we were with my sisters and brother-in-law on their first trip to Italy and she did a great job of showing them around while also keeping my husband and me interested (our 4th visit).
