carlm,
Air One has a one way fare of EUR 65 + tax on this route with 2 flights a day. Unfortunately, the online booking module at the Air One site appears to be down right now... You can also book Air One flights through Lufthansa, though I don't know if they offer these low fares as well. Anyway, things will probably be up & running again by Monday.

Otherwise, you can try Volare - cost is EUR 77 + tax. Round trip is EUR 154 + tax. However, they have only one flight a day in each direction. It leaves Rome at 21:00, arriving in Venice at 22:05. The flight from Venice to Rome leaves at 7:00 AM.
Also, Volare's low "internet" fares are nominally only available in Italy, although I think you can easily get away with giving them your hotel address - they offer you the option to pick up your tickets at one of their airport offices, so how would they notice the difference?

Alitalia's cheapest one way fare on the route is EUR 130 + taxes. They do also have roundtrips starting at EUR 120, so if you're flying back and forth and can snag such a fare, that's a good deal as well.

That said, I would just take the direct Eurostar train instead - equivalent total journey time from city center to city center (4.5 hours), but painless with no trek to/from the airport, security lines etc. and of course much cheaper (especially when you factor in the cost of getting to/from the airport)at EUR 45 in 2nd class and EUR 67 in 1st.

Hope this helps,

Unless you are arriving on the same day, so that you are already at Marco Polo airport, flying from venice to Rome will not save you a great deal of time and will always be far more costly that travelling by train. a Eurostar class train connects hourly Venice to Rome, the train leaves from Santa Lucia station (on the Canal Grande) and arrives at Stazione Termini in the center of Rome. The travel time is 4 and a half hours. The level of comfort on these trains is the same as on a plane. First class tickets cost 67,14 euro and second class tickets cost 44,93 euoro per person (no utter fees requested). You can buy the tickets and book seats a couple of days in advance at any train station (either from the ticket-selling desk or from the English-language enabled machines that allow you to pay with credit card) or from a travel agency (some add a small agency fee: a couple of Euro).
Airplane will cost you twice as much and will not help you save time: the flight itself will be about one hour, but you will have to be at the airport one hour in advance, getting from your hotel to the airport will take you at least half an hour and collecting your luggage and getting to the center of rome will take you no less than one hour and a quarter, for a total of about four hours, only half an hour or so less than going by train.
