I hope ileen comes back.

It is ridiculous to plan on getting from an airport hotel to Venice by water taxi. Airport hotels are not on the water.

One would have to get to the actual airport FROM the hotel to get a water taxi or Alilaguna boat to Venice proper.

Only a couple of people here saw the insanity of this plan. It is crazy, will cost a fortune, and waste an extreme amount of time.

I, too, agree that staying in a hotel near Piazzale Roma is the only thing that makes sense. (Sorry, but I actually missed the little detail in your original post that said you planned to stay near the airport -- do NOT do that.)

You are determined to see Venice, and that is really the only way to do it. I also repeat: don't try to see Murano (or any of the further out islands.)

Just racked my brain, the alilaguna coast about €13 each for a one way trip. By the time ileen and her partner do that a few times they'll have spent €100 or more which could be put towards a hotel right in Venice.

A boat is not an option really. It is hard to say without knowing the exact airport hotel, but a few are along the local bus route as I mentioned earlier. The most cost effective to get to Venice from such a hotel would be by land bus, but the schedule would have to studied closely for evening bus options. I might do this for an early departure if I only had one night, but for a few days I would prefer to be on the island.

A hotel near Piazzale Roma would be the best balance for ease getting to the airport and ease touring.
