Venice-Lake Como in September

We are planning to be in Venice September 19 -23,2006. What is the best way to get from Venice to Lake Como and how long will it take. What will the weather be like at Lake Como? How will we get from Lake Como to Milan and how long will it take?
Thanks to all of you. You have helped me on my three past trips.

I believe the best way is by train, and to find out go to trenitalia.com.

Train service works fine (Lecco and Varenna) are on a main line going from Milan to Switzerland. I believe the town of Como is served by an extension of the Milan Metro Area Rail.

The climate of Lake Como is described as 'Subalpine', so I suspect late September might be jacket weather. At any time of year, some of the mountains that you can see from the lake will still have snow on thier peaks.

For the train schedules and time required, try Trentitalia.com or Die Bahn.

You'll have great weather in the Lake Como area that time of the year, possibly even shirtsleeve weather...Still, bring a jacket!

Thank you all (again, as usual).
