Venice Hotels with location easy for seventy year olds?

What kind of condition are your 70 year olds in? This is a serious question because you may be making assumptions. There are plenty of us 70 year olds, and older, who do not need special arrangements.

I agree with Basinstoke2. If you have major mobility issues then Venice may not be the place for you. Plan on doing a LOT of walking unless you think you can do all your travel by water and even then you'll have to do some walking which often includes up and down steps, over small and not so small bridges, etc.
Seventy years old doesn't tell us anything except your age.

Look at the Ca dei Conti, near San Marco but hidden away on a little canal. We were very happy there.
We are in our 70s now, and would not hesitate to stay there again.

La Calcina is a great hotel, but it does not have an elevator as requested in this post.
I agree about asking about their overall physical condition. The people I know who are 70 don't need any special arrangements. But in Venice is won't only be about the situation at their hotel, to get anywhere you need to walk, walk, walk and that's often up over bridges, steps, narrow sidewalks, even getting on and off the vaporetto isn't exactly easy.

Condition not too bad. Wife has some foot issues but can walk but a bit slowly. Can we expect some help if needed getting on and off vaporetti and/or water taxis? Thanks, all for your answers to date.

water taxis possibly, vaporetti - I've never seen it. they can be quite a scrum getting on and off, especially Line 1.
were this me, I'd arrive by train, and book a hotel nearby, so as to cut out the problems of getting from the piazzale Roma to the hotel with the luggage. an alternative would be to catch the alilaguna boat from the airport to somewhere like san Marco or the Zattere and choose a hotel nearby.
there are several websites dealing with Venice for the disabled - I know that does not exactly apply to you, but you may get some help from them.

good luck and have a great trip.

Another hotel they might enjoy is Palazzo Guardi www.palazzoguardivenice.com
It is in a historic building (doesn't look like much from the outside)and has an elevator albeit a tiny, slow one. The rooms actually look like those in the web site. Those shown are #4 and #5. We had #4 and loved it. Both 4 and 5 directly overlook the San Travaso Canal and a lovely old church. The hotel is located between the Accademia and Zattere Vaporetto stops, about 100 yards from either with a flat, no bridge walk. The Vaporetto at the Accademia stop will take you to St. Marks - it's a short ride.
As far as getting on and off the Vaporetto, it should not pose a problem - there is a ramp. A water taxi would be more difficult.
