Hello everyone. Since this site was so helpful before in reaffirming our choice to stay 6 nights in Venice, now my wife and I are hoping for some Hotel recommendations for July. We are looking for something central in the range of $150-175 U.S (280 000 -300 000 Lira). We would like to stay somewhere that matches the feel of being in Venice....Any recommendations??? Some friends recently recommended Bisanzio although I haven't stayed there. I've seen it on this forum a few times...

I stayed at the Hotel Principe, which is about 100 yards from the train staion, and even closer to the vaporettos. And it falls into your price range. We have used the Laconda Sturion, right on the canal at the Rialto Bridge and found it to be pleasant. Price should be within or less than your range. Very nice hotel with one cavaet, no lift, and lots of steps from street level to hotel lobby, but worth the climb. They have a web page. Our room overlooked the canal and was large, airy, well furnished, and very nice bath room.

We stayed at the Hotel American this past September. Our canal-view room was $200/night, but the non-view rooms were less. We really liked this property. The breakfast was good, the room was very comfortable and good sized, and it's located across the Grand Canal in Dorsoduro, just a 2 minute walk from the Accademia bridge, or from the traghetto across the canal. Best of all, it's quieter over there, and there's less of a feeling of being over-touristed, especially after dark.

I an a travel agent who just returned fro a week in Venice. I inspected about 20 hotels. My favorite is a "new" hotel the Ca d'Oro. Very nice rooms, good size baths, and a very nice breakfast. The hotel is a 2 min. walk from the Ca d'Oro vaporetti stop. Beautiful rooms, great location (5 min walk to the Rialto) and very quiet. It is on a small canal and is accessable by water taxi. They are new and unknown. I'm going back in February and May...I love it so much. I have stayed in and seen many hotels, this one is special. No, I am not advertising for them. I do not get anything out of posting this. I just think they are a great small hotel that is just starting out, and they offer a great value.

Hi Ralph <BR>Another new hotel worth mentioning is Locanda San Barnaba, a converted palazzo in Dorsoduro. I have reservations there for end of March/beginning of April, after reading on this forum that it got a good write-up in the New York Times. Their superior rooms (which have frescoed ceilings) are 320 lire per night in high season which is a good deal cheaper than other similar hotels. They have just 13 rooms, so they may be fully booked, but do check out their website - www.locanda-sanbarnaba.com. As they only opened last year and are not yet in the guide books, you might get a room. <BR>Wherever you choose, enjoy your visit! This will be my first trip to Venice - for my birthday! - and I can't wait!

Check out Leon Bianco. We loved it there and it's in your price range. I'd ask the about air conditioning though..not sure if you'll need it in July and not if they have it.
