Venice help please
We are planning a three day trip to Venice in March. We will be two adults and two children. It looks like we need to purchase Rolling Venice pass for the kids. 6 + 22 = 28 euros each pass. It seems like the City Pass may not be economical but should we purchase it anyway if we want to avoid the lines? Will we be able to enter with the City Pass or will we need to exchange the City Pass for tickets at the same windows where we would purchase the tickets on the day we visit? Will we need to purchase tickets for the children at the various sights? Children are 11 and 9. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for candy stores or grocery stores with large candy selections in Rome, Venice or Florence? We love to buy local candy when we travel. Thank you!!

I've been to Venice five times (usually for about 3 days at a time) and never bought any pass except for Vaparetto passes. Especially in March, if you get out and about early in the day you should be able to get into the Doges Palace (the site with the longest lines) in only a few minutes. That was my experience just a couple of years ago in March.

Looking for a gourmet candy store in Venice? I have one for you - Nino and Friends. They have two locations that I know of. One is by Campo Santa Marina. We frequented that one because it was near our hotel. The other one is at the foot of the Rialto Bridge across from the big department store with the rooftop terrace overlooking the Grand Canal.

We're also visiting in March. These responses seem to suggest that no advance ticketing is necessary to avoid lines at this time of year, is that a reasonable conclusion? That seems to contradict most travel advice, though I suppose such advice is mostly aimed at visitors during peak season.

Been to Venice three times...only pass we have bought is a transport pass, for convenience -- we like the convenience of being able to hop on and hop off without counting our Euros. 
. You need to do your own math to decide if it is worth it.
As stated before -- we've been there in March once -- that time of year should not be overly crowded.
