Can anyone recommend things to do on Giudecca as our holiday accomodation (near the new Hilton)is here, and we'd like to at least do some walks in the area in the evening.(Does anyone know the time of the last Vaporetto we could catch to get back 'home'in the eveningif we spend the day on mainland Venezia?) Also if we are arriving at SLVenezia station what is the best vaporetto to get to Giudecca (will be mid afternoon)?

It looks like the whole world travels to Venice, but Giudecca is not on the itinerary. We will be there it seems for the Festa del Redentore and the Apartment we have booked (in the Molino Stucky building) has views over the water, though whether it will look over the water where the fireworks will be I do not know. At the time of booking I didn't know about the Festa,or didn't realise it would be that weekend (information overload) so didn't ask. Potentially the Festa may complicate our departure which is to be on the Sunday morning, or perhaps we will not want to make the earliest train for Florence after a fairly late and noisy celebration the evening before. So there's the festa and the island of Giudecca, anyone with any input on either of these, it would be really appreciated.

I don't think the issue is that nobody visits the Giudecca, but rather that people aren't visiting in the evening so much. It's residential and very quiet in comparison to the city center.

There are lovely neighborhoods for walking around in the evening. The 82 line of vaporetti arrive and depart the stops every twenty minutes from the San Zaccaria and Zattere stops from across the water until midnight. After midnight, the Night line runs once an hour (giver or take) so there is no "last boat" per se.

As for the Festa, there should be no problem viewing fireworks from any vantage point on Giudecca. It is a huge display that has lasted at least twenty minutes each time I've seen it.

It will be completely up to you if you wish to delay your departure, but it wouldn'y be for lack of accessibility. The vaporetti will continue to run their usual schedule the following morning.

Take the 82 vaporetto from the Ferrovia station. Before getting on the boat make sure it's going toward Giudecca first, rather than the other direction of the circular line it takes.

We were in Venice for a week the last of April and one night we did go over to Giudecca to look around. From the Zattere it is a 5 minute vaporetto ride. You can stand on the Zattere and look at the Giudecca. Anyway, we just walked around the neighborhoods. We saw a huge boat yard and boat storage building. No one seemed to mind that we walked around and looked at all the boats. We found the hostel, the laudramat, huge apartment complexes which looked fairly new, a few small mom and pop grocery stores, a few restaurants, and Hotel Cipriani. We enjoyed sitting on a bench along the waterfront and watching a cruiseship go through the canal. Don't feel like your hotel is too far away. By the way, we walked all day every day so we never made it awake past 10pm.lynclarke

Thank you so much Kris, I thought with all the activity on the water and the "bridge of watercraft" to the Redentore that it would interrupt any vaporetto traffic. I've managed to find the approximate location of the building- it's at the western end and the festivities are more to the eastern end, so I'm doubly reassured that we should be able to make our train in the morning. Thanks Lynclarke, I'm sure by the time that we walk all day we'll be fairly tired by evening, but I've never seen anything like this megaparty on the water so between that and some of the things you've mentioned, our evenings will allow us to enjoy our neighbourhood.
