Venice directions - best way from Castello to Venice Mestre (with luggage)

Hi Fodorites

Oh my goodness, only 30 days to go Can barely contain my excitement.

Can someone help me please with some directions?

We need to get from our apartment in Castello to Venice Mestre train station:
- with luggage
- on a Monday (around Midday, if that makes any difference).
- we have the vaporetti pass

Grateful if someone could please point me in the right direction & let me know roughly how much time to allow.

Many thanks

Lovener1.
(has started packing her suitcase already)

Take the vaporetto to the Venice train station and then take that to the Mestre station. Allow 45 minutes for the vaporetto ride and 15 minutes to by your train tickets (from a machine) and then board. Another 10 minutes to Mestre. So, 1.5 hours should be okay.

you can take water bus from the stop nearest your hotel and\or walk to the train station and catch a train to Mestre they run all day at appx every 10-15min and the trip is appx 10min.

The main train station on the Venice island is Venezia SL (Santa Lucia). The first stop on any train leaving Venezia SL is Venezia Mestre (the first staton on the mainland).

Castello is a big area. Without knowing the exact location of your apartment, we can't begin to guess timing. You can check vaporetto routes and schedules here:

Thanks everyone. I had wondered if we should head to Santa Lucia. We are staying in the San Francesco Della Vigna neighborhood. The actual address doesn't mean much to me as it is so different to our addresses (I'm sure it will all make sense when we get there). It's just a number xxxx Castello.

Hi

You can use this nifty site to get a little picture of where you'll be in Castello.

Click on 'civic number' on the left side of the screen. Then get Castello in the pull down menu, and enter the number you been given. You'll get the street location, click on that, and a segment of map will open with your number flashing. It will even tell you your closest vaporetto stop(s).

Have a brilliant time!
