venice cards - which one?

i have been researching the venice card for my 4-5 day trip in November. For the full card [access to all the museums, plus the airport connection both ways, they are quoting me E72 for 7 days, or E54 for 3 days. Trouble is, the three day one would not cover the whole trip. It also seems very expensive - any idea how much I am really likely to use it? Or am i just being a cheap-skate.
I'll be very grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks, Ann

I've never bought one of the Venice Cards -- they just didn't seem like a good deal to me as we don't do EVERY museum or church.

But we always do the vaparetto passes.

Do you realize that they aren't really a 3 day pass, but a 72 hour one? That means if you first use it on Monday at 2 PM, it is good until Thursday at 2 PM -- kind of like getting four days out of it. It may be possible to do that, wait until you need a vaparetto again, then just do a one day one which will possibly cover you until you leave.

Maybe you are just being a cheapskate -- but I'm one too. We're just two members of a very big club.

Hi Ann,

I personally wouldn't go for a Venice Card. Plus, the Venice card prices you're looking at are off by €20+. The Venice card with an Alilaguna transfer from the airport is actually €74 for 3 days, and €96 for 7 days. Unless you're getting a super deal somewhere...

What I would do is get a vaporetto pass (€12 for 24 hours, or €25 for 72 hours), and purchase either an Alilaguna transfer from the airport to city center (St. Mark's Sq is €12 each way) OR take an ATVO bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma (near the rail station) for €3 each way, or €5.50 round trip. I would then pay for museums along the way.

Unless you're thinking of museum hopping among the Musei Civici Veneziani, I'd reconsider personally.

I agree that the Venice Card isn't really worth purchasing. I researched it for both our four day trip and our most recent seven day trip in Venice, and found that it wasn't worth the purchase price even with all the sights we saw and visited.

THanks guys - i think that you are confirming what I was gradually finding out for myself. So it's going to be the vaporetto pass purchased on the first morning, not when I get there, as I'm not planning on taking many boats that night, plus the bus to piazzale roma. now I've got to work out how to get from there to my hotel in the dark. a case for mappy, i think.
Thanks again, y'all.
