Venetian Fragrant Plant ?

Does anyone know the name of the fragrant shrub that is found in the gardens of Venice?

It has a strong scent like jasmine, but I don't think it is jasmine.

You see many of these shrubs around the walled gardens of Venice and especially the Biennale Gardens.

Let's see how smart you all are.

Could be an Osmanthus. But without a picture I'm just guessing.

No, this was a flowering shrub, the flowers were in clusters like grapes and kind of looked like a white forsythia.

Viburnum?
It is certainly very fragrant. You can smell it a long way off.

No, definitely not wisteria. I know wysteria.

I don't think it was spirea either.

Maybe it was a jasmine plant only indigenous to Venice.

This shrub was very fragrant like jasmine.

If anyone has ever been to the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas they would understand the scent.

I think the scent used to 'perfume' the casino and hotel comes from this flowering plant.

Star Jasmine? Hmmm, I think that you nailed it, Patrick.

It certainly does look like the plant I saw all over Venice.

Now if only someone who lives in Venice can confirm.

Thanks for the help,

Pepper

Well, I was going to say Gelsemium, otherwise known as false jasmine. It's all over Venice this time of year.
