Kind of last minute trip. July 27-Aug 9. Thinking of starting in south Britanny and driving down the coast.
Would really appreciate some itinerary help, as I am a little stumped.
Preliminary plan
- 3 nights Vannes
- 2 nights on the way to Bordeaux (La Rochelle? )
- 3 nights Bordeaux
- and then 5 nights... Pays Basque? San Sebastian? Rioja? We plan to fly out of Bilbao.

We are very interested in history, culture, wine, much less so beaches and so on. Usually like fast paced travel, but wouldn't mind to try a slowed down version which would be new for us. No reasonable financial constraints.
Thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

There is a beautiful cycle route down the Atlantic coast which would fit in easily with that timeline. Very little road traffic and a lot of pure cycle path.

Even the mouth of the Dordogne has a small ferry over it.

My only concerns would be this is at the height of the holiday season so accom is going to be hard to find, plus the heat in Pays Basque might be dangerous.
