Valencia to Granada or Madrid to Granada
In early days of planning for trip to Spain, Portugal and France in September and October 2011 (we have 8 weeks). Had planned to fly in to Barcelona (from Heathrow)and then on to Valencia for 3 nights and from there to Granada (to Seville, Cordoba and then to Madrid and from there to Lisbon etc etc) - but looking at train timetables seems to me that we may be better to go from Valencia to Madrid and back the other way (to Granada, then Cordoba, Seville - and then to Lisbon) because there is only the overnight train from Valencia to Granada - your thoughts?

If you can get it for your dates, the night train has sleeper cars and many many timesI have seen the webfare for them. Would be a nice way to go if you opt for the train.
Ryanair has cheap flights to Sevilla from Valencia, as occasionally do other companies but right now Ryanair is the cheapest I have seen in october.

Demon22,
'So you think the train Valencia to Granada would be OK?'
All I can I offer is - this is the way this route and schedules have been for several years and the likelihood is little will change, except the cost and maybe minutes in departure and arrival times. (Price changes and possible schedule changes for the whole network usually at end May or early June).
The only way to Lisbon from Seville direct, (without flight which I know little of), is by bus - http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa
I suggest when you have a plan/travel itinerary for Spain and through to Lisbon you post it, let it be 'shot at' and you should receive more advice.
Glad you have the wit to start on this early.
Best wishes.
