Vacation in Provence (Caromb)
I am planning to stay in a villa in Caromb for the 2nd week of September. Can anyone suggest any particularly cozy towns/villages, restaurants, or "must see" places in the area? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Don

Hi demure, you will be about seven miles from Capantras that has a very good market, I forget what day at the moment. You probably know that Caromb has the largest Romanesque church in the Vaucluse, you are so close to Mont Ventoux (sp?) and one of my favorite hotels(for a special occassion because $ but) you must visit it, in Crillon-le-brave,it's built on terraces, the views incredible. Nearby it le Barroux, stop for lunch at Les Geraniams. Food not that great but the view and drive is worth it.

Caromb is a cute town - a bit off the tourist route. Pick up a walking tour of the town (in English) at the tourist office. Our favorite restaurant in the area is l'Oustalet in Gigondas (www.restaurant-oustalet.fr).
The Carpentras market is Friday morning, and there is also a nice market in Bedoin on Monday morning.
Last June, we spent 2 weeks in a Gite near there.

We've rented mas in/around Caromb and
loved staying there. Lots of great
villages as mentioned by OP's. I'd
add Crestet as the cutest little village around! Also, Buis des Baronnies (sp); Beaume de Venise,
the drive over the Nesque gorge to
Apt; Mazan with the wonderful sunken
Notre Dame de Parloup in the old, old
graveyard. And on and on........great
area! And I second the Bedoin market
as one of the best in the Vaucluse.

Don, just to add that you'll be well-positioned to see Vaison-la-Romaine, too; it's a short drive to the north of Caromb. Vaison offers fascinating Roman ruins and artifacts, as well as an interesting Romanesque church and cloisters.
