Using Skype to pick up emails and make phone calls on Iphone

has anyone used Skype instead of using ATT to pick up emails & make calls in Europe? I'll be on a cruise ship part of the time and found out that even though you pay for an Internet plan they still charge additional $3.95 for each email sent.

As long you are have wifi access, and turn off the data roaming, you are free to use Skype, email, and any other internet services without charge from ATT.

Have you downloaded the Skype app to your phone yet? It works as Skype does on your computer.

One disappointment is that (as far as I can tell) you can't use the video conferencing abilities of the Iphone 4 over skype, but I have used it for just voice (over wifi).

yes I have the Skype on my phone now. I just wasn't sure if being in the middle of the ocean would affect it. So I should be able to just do the ATT cheapest International plan, not to worry about the data plan, correct?

charge additional $3.95 for each email sent.

Looks like they are skinning you alive and washing the wound with vinegar. Which cruise ship is doing this?

I've been on ferries, trains, and planes with free WiFi and Skype via my netbook. Why waste your money?

it's the Ruby Princess. I agree, I've bought internet pkgs on many ships, but never been charged additionally for sending out emails!!
