Using 10-10-197 in France

I will be using the "free" cell phone from Auto Europe when in France. I need to call the US every day. I had one a year ago and it was fine for all my calls.

The Auto Europe phones have a UK country code (44). The 1010297 service is .03 per minute and .39 connection fee. The incoming phone rate on the cell phone is .99..so it would be 1.02 + the 39. conn. fee if I had the US call me...if I call the US, I have a flat 1.99 charge from the cell. Local calls on the cell are 1.20.

I think I will have the US call me daily, based on the above.

My questions: Has anyone done this and does local phone service (mine is Bell South) add any charges to the 1010297 billings that will come to them to be added to my phone bill??

Thanks for any infomation.....

I don't know anything about the charges your cell phone will incur (I'm currently having my own cell phone questions about Italy, have a post going about that one) but I do know that if you call France (land line or cell phone) from the US and use either 10-10-297 or 10-10-987 your home phone bill will show charges of 3 cents per minute (3.9 cents for 10-10-987). For the past 6 months I've been calling my daughter in France, sometime her land line and sometimes her cell phone, and my Verizon bill has the charges included on it when I used 10-10-987. The charges were the same regardless of whether I was calling her on the cell phone or the landline. There were no charges to her cell phone, but then she had a French SIM card in her phone so incoming calls were free.

Isabel,

The "free" cell phone information sent to me from Auto Europe has all the info for incoming, local and to US, so I know what that is.

I just wondered if someone else had used this with receiving the calls from the US, as I am thinking of doing with the comparison of charges. I also wondered if Bell South added any charges to the charges they would be adding to my bill from the use of 1010297.

Thanks,

I haven't used that number, but I've used 101 6400 to make reservations in France, and just got my phone bill and there weren't any extra charges that I could find. My calls to Frande were all about 35 cents.

Actually, since your phone has a UK country code, the calls might be even cheaper. (with 101 6400, call to the UK are 5 cents a minute, and to France 7 cents a minute)

The title of this thread is wrong, and therefore people are giving wrong answers to the question. I don't know the answer, but let me rephrase the question so maybe someone can help:

The Question is:

"When using 1010297 from the US to dial France, is there any additional cost other than the 3cents per minute and 39 cents connection fees? Any other tax, and will the local phone compnay put on additional fees?"

The question has nothing to do with France, or dialing from France or anything.

I'd double-check that there are no additional charges for dialing from the US to a Mobile/Cell phone. some of the 10 10 numbers charge a very high per minute rate to calls to a mobile.

I thought I did answer that but I'll try again. When using 10-10-987 to call France (cell or land phone) the cost was 3.9 cents per minute. The charges appear on my Verizon bill and Verizon does not add any additional fees. There are taxes (as there seem to be on everything). My total bill last month for the 10-10-987 calls was $19.25 and there was $3.14 in taxes.

I have been using 10-10-987 frequently for the last 6 months to call France for trip arrangements. The charges appear on my BellSouth bill with no additional charges added, except the little bit for taxes. Last year I was using my regular AT&T to call France, and the charges were horrendous. 10-10-987 is GREAT!

Isabel and Sue,

I think you answered my questions. I checked the 1010987 and it is now .03 per min. and .46 connection. The 1010297 says .03 and .39 connection..big deal!!

I will check with them about calling the cell # and with Bell South about charges other than the taxes..of course, the taxes!!!

As I pointed out originally, it will be less expensive for the US to call me, rather than for me to call the US, with the 1.00 difference between incoming calls and calls to the US rates!

Thanks all for your help....

I just read that 10-10-987 is now imposing a Wireless Communication Devices Surcharge: "Due to increased costs imposed by some overseas telephone companies, in the countries listed below a per minute surcharge will apply to international calls made to mobile phones, pagers and other wireless devices." That surcharge in most countries in Europe is $.10/minute. It doesn't seem that 10-10-297 has followed this practice yet.

Hi grace,

For short phone calls, you might find 1016868 to be cheaper. They are 10cts/min and no connection charge.

Hold the phone (literally)! For a comparison of all the 10-10 dial around numbers, go to www.10-10phonerates.com. You have to be really careful when you use the 10-10 numbers because the rates change often and without notice and are different for different parts of the country. This site compares all the plans and gives you a customer service number for the plan you use. We've been really happy with Everdial, which I found on the site. We use Everdial for our long-distance service, and their rates for phoning Europe (from CA) are very inexpensive.(I have no connection with the company)
