Urgent! Need a Paris hotel - leaving Sunday!

Hi,

Apparently I'm stressed because I posted this on the US Board without realizing it. Plans fell through for my hotel (I thought someone else was going to book it and pay for it, but found out this morning that I'm responsible for it -this trip is a gift).

So, I've looked at the various hotels recommended on the board: Hotel Bonaparte, Jeanne d'Arc, Saint Pierre, etc. They're all booked for the week I need.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My ideal budget is under 100 Euro per night. As far as areas, I'm traveling solo and really don't want to be in super touristy area. At this point in the game, I'm flexible!

I don't think I'll have enough time to rent an apartment at such a last minute. What do you guys think?

Thanks,
TR

Have you checked the Familia, Minerve, and Champ de Mars?

I'm not sure what you mean by "super touristy" area? Does that mean you don't mind being in an outlying area far from the tourist sights? That should help you find a place more easily.

Can you give out your exact dates? I think €100 should be do-able for a single.

When is your trip (when you say this is the "last minute&quot?

The hotels you contacted already are in what would be considered a "touristy" area. Most people want to stay centrally for the ambiance and convenience. Especially solo I think that's a GOOD thing.

I would simply go to some of the general tourist websites for Paris and make a list of any hotel in the 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th arrondisements (you can tell by the last numbers in the postal code of their street address) that are in your price range. And start contacting them.

Working only from personal favorite recommended on Fodor's does not always work as you're finding, because they are often smaller places, very popular so booked up in advance.

Oops, sorry I see the date is in your title. THIS Sunday!

My suggestions above hold, but you should get on the telephone, rather than count on email.

how about an apartment? you may luck out and get a deal since it is last minute and you can certainly get something for under 100 euro.

www.vrbo.com has a good selection.

Hi,

I knew I could count on you all for information!

I'm sorry my dates were not clear: I land on 31 March and leave on 6 April.

As far as my definition of "touristy" - I don't have to be within spitting distance of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, etc. As long as the hotel is near a Metro then I'm happy - I can be in an outlying area.

Cherrybomb: thanks for the link to the Paris apartments. I'll do a search.

Whew! My heart rate is slowing down. I'm at work trying to wrap things up as well as find a place to stay. It's Friday!

You might also go on the ibis website. Ibis are no frills hotels and are outside the most touristed areas. It seems likely that they might have something.

The Timhotel Eiffel Invalides (3 star) has a room, 1388 euros for 7 nights.

Timhotel is a basic chain with multiple locations in Paris.

I'd also consider using Priceline in this sort of case. But avoid the Eiffel Tower - Montparnasse - Grenelle zone, as that may put you outside of Paris proper. See www.betterbidding.com .

www.accorhotels.com has lots of hotels for that or under spread throughout Paris

though not the proverbial family run hotel in the Latin Quarter they are in many great locations and are thoroughly modern, etc.

1388 Euros is over 200 Euros per night - I wouldn't go for that.

www.ratestogo.com has several decent hotels that will come to less than 700 Euros for your stay.

Another option is to break up your stay. It looks like some dates are more expensive than others, so having two separate hotels might work too.

VRBO has a studio apartment in the 4th that is available that week and it rents for 75E per night. It is between Place des Vosges and Pompidou Center. We're staying there in late September. The apartment # is 161489.

You people are starting to convince me I don't need to book my Paris accomodations until a week before I leave

Good to know it's 'easy' off-season to get a place.
