I'm trying to find out where this photo was taken. Any clue?

Is same question has been posted on Lonely Planet. The poster thinks it is Germany as he has posted in that section- So it looks unlikely it is in Canada.

Not Toronto unless it has moved closer to the mountains (visible in the background).

Does not look like anywhere in Germany at all to me. Form the layout of the city I'd rather suspect North America.

I didn't see those "mountains" in the background but that RAILYARD down below looks suspiciously like the one near the CNN tower

Someone else just gave the same answer over on TT. Are there two prizes or do we have to share the winnings? ;-)

Thanks guys! This was an old friend of mine who passed away recently. Her brother sent me this photo. Now I'll be happy to email him back with a response!

In other words, our prize is having helped someone who is grieving the loss of a beloved person, even if it is just a tiny little bit. Very sorry to hear about your loss.
