Back on topic everyone. A few years back a family member had a first class ticket to Europe because of frequent flyer miles, that they couldn't use. They gave it to me. I flew first class in and out of Europe and it was amazing! And I'll probably never get it again. I don't like flying, but I'd stay in the air a week if its international first class. There were only 4 of us with 2 flight attendants. The food was incredible and I truly don't know how 'cause I've never had good airline food, even on domestic first class. The bed thing, the confort kit, the personal video, any wine I wanted...Makes it hard to fly steerage now, but travel is worth it.

What a depressing thread! If I knew any employee who felt this way in my company I would invite them to find another job. All of our employees in our pre-IPO company have a huge vested interest in the success of the business and we all fly coach all the time. And usually on Saturday because it costs a lot less. It's a few stinking hours. I often wondered how rich I'd have to be to justify spending that much on first (or even business class) tickets. I haven't figured out the answer.

I love some of these stupid responses! Some of these people have no idea how business works or capitalism. They are the trolls that will never figure it out and will always complain about success and successful people. If you redistributed all the money in the US equally the top 5% would have all theirs back in a few years and the trolls would be broke again. The way to fly first class is simple: use your miles to upgrade. Never pay for it as it is too expensive. The way you get miles is to use your credit card for everything and pay it off 100% each month as the interest charge is robbery. I make a lot of money but I know how to handle it. The trolls do not and never will and we will always have to support them and their stupidity with higher and higher taxes.
Figure it out people! Uncle Sam will not make you rich.

I have flown the first suite from Chicago to LAX, it was great. Seat is hard to get comfortable, and if over 6'2" it is hard to lay flat.

Will travel to Paris this year in United First.

Michael

Hard to get comfortable? Now you're giving me a bit of a pause. I assume you're referring to lying flat, which I don't think I'll do anyway.

Re: Duke, you're right if you are flying on a two class plane. You can't, at least not on United, upgrade to First, only to Business (unless you buy a business class ticket, which is way beyond my means). Also, unlike domestic flights, you can't upgrade from the lowest fare on a flight to Europe. That's why I saved up my miles (after cashing in for 2 1st class tix to Europe last fall, I've already earned another 70,000 miles).

Also, this thread is about the first class suite, which is only available on 777s and 747s, which are three class planes.

To use miles to upgrade from Economy to Business you have to buy unrestricted airfare. The difference between restricted and unrestricted economy to Paris (from SFO) is enough to pay for a week of hotels. Not a great trade off for me.

Actually, Bill, at least on United, you can upgrade to business from a discounted fare, just not the lowest fare.

The last time I did it, the lowest fare from San Francisco to Paris was $550. I paid $750 and was able to upgrade to business class. But, as you say, for the two of us we paid an extra $400, so the tradeoff was business class vs. 2 nights hotel. We opted for business class.
