Umbria Jazz Festival

We will be staying about 2 hours from Perugia at the time of this Jazz Festival. Has anyone ever gone to this event? Hugely crowded? Will parking be a problem or should we train it? Any information please??

Went about 6 year ago. Busy but not hugely crowded. You have to park outside the centro storico (old town) anyway and parking wasn't that easy so if you can take the train that would be your best option. Have fun!

Went for the 20th anniversary in 1993, and venues were all through the squares of Umbria. Hung out with Wynton and BB King--unforgettable. It was crowded, and in fact, when some of the young people were drinking too much there was pushing and shoving at one venue in Assisi. The crowds are wonderfully mixed and enthusiastic. I recommend staying over, if you can. Atleast have lunch at La Rosetta, the hotel near the center. The courtyard is wonderful and musicians stay there. We had impromptu concerts from some of the balconies.

This sounds like a great event...do you buy tickets to attend different concerts? I'm almost getting impression that a lot of stuff takes place on the streets? What towns have this going on in them?

Musiclover: thanks for bringing this event to my attention! I went to the website and it looks like a great event. I'll be in Italy from July 11-27 and was upset that I was going to miss the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland. Now I have to choose who I want to see: Roy Hargrove, Keith Jarret or John Scofield! BTW - does anyone know of any budget accomodations in the area?
