As a safety precaution, they have decided to close the UK under all safety concerns can be resolved. It is expected to reopen sometime in 3514.
Seriously, go and enjoy your trip already. You are in far more danger of getting run over crossing the street (especially given the cars are on the wrong side of the road.)

Well, I've been to London a month after 9/11 and a month after 7/7 and lived to tell the tale! Really, chances are it's okay-just use normal common sense and go with your gut instinct. Londoners have lived with the IRA bombings for years and many have to commute by train and subway.
You're in more danger of being hit by a left turning cab in London than terrorism. Enjoy and I'm envious.

My thoughts of living in London today as I prepare to leave for my office (located across from Victoria Station) are as follows -
I REALLY don't want to go to work today
I can't believe I don't have a single pair of tights without holes in them
Don't forget to leave 20 quid for the cleaner
I need to pay the water bill
Those are all my thoughts at the moment.

MI5 BELIEVE there is a high likelihood of a terrorist attack somewhere in Britain.
But I KNOW there's a 100% certainty there'll be a car crash some time on the road I drive along for one of my routes into London: there are signs all along telling me how many accidents there've been in the past three years.
2,200 people were killed in UK traffic accidents last year. Not a single person died or was injured in a terrorist-related incident on the UK mainland.
In spite of the certainty of accidents on the roads I use, my chances of being in one are so trivial I don't waste time thinking about it. So why should I waste mental energy on something infintely less likely?

I arrived in London today, and was even curious if security would be tighter at passport control, but I saw no evidence of that. I'm not at all concerned. But three days ago I had a complete tour of Saigon from the back of a motorcycle. Hey if I can do that, I can face terrorist threats!

So glad you decided to keep your plans. We were there when the warnings were announced a few days ago and did notice a little more visible security around major tourist sites, but that is a good thing. There are no guarantees in this world but a guarantee is not needed to have a wonderful time in one of the most beautiful and dynamic cities in the world.
